The Dog Toffee boys return to give this rock ‘n’ roll lark another go
THREE years ago, a little known English band with the glorious moniker
Dog Toffee released an album called ‘Sacred Heart’. It was a brilliant
piece of work – sleazy, streetwise, dirty and melodic all at the same
time, Dog Toffee had released a rock ‘n’ roll record that could rival
anything the Scandinavians had to offer. The trouble is, nobody heard
it. Blame the state of the music business or blame an apathetic public,
but somehow a great band was being allowed to disappear. Inevitably, it
wasn’t long before they conceded defeat and called it a day.
Well, kinda. In fact, three of them (guitarist and vocalist Bobby H,
bassist Sean Dog and guitarist The Hammer, a name that we at this
magazine approve of) have stuck together and re-christened themselves
DTX, adding drummer Nelson to the line up. ‘One More Sinner’ is the
fruit of their invigorated labours, and the record is very much a
continuation from where ‘Sacred Heart’ left off. Vocally, Bobby H’s most
obvious comparison is Nicke Royale of The Hellacopters, and there’s
definitely an element of the Swedish band’s brand of garage rock, with
those glorious throwaway riffs, about DTX. Musically, though, they’re
closer to the anthemic punk of Turbonegro, with a dash of Velvet
Revolver’s contemporary sleaze.
The media tackling ‘NME Darling’ (not sure which magazine they’re
attacking there) is a highlight. With it’s chanted verses and “woah
oh’s” in the chorus, it’s an excellent example of how a small band on a
small budget can sound immense. Elsewhere, ‘Like It’ is a Misfits style
stomp along – stylish, simplistic and wonderfully catchy.
This is a band that are only going to get better, and as we bask in the
glow of the return of fun-time rock ‘n’ roll, courtesy of Velvet
Revolver and The Darkness, this may well be their time. To let them fade
away twice would be criminal.

November 29- 05 - Next show is at Number 15, 14-15 Churchgate Bolton, UK - December 9 - 2005.

October 05- 05 - Well after the ill-fated Junk Records release, (we still have the test pressings for that one, probabaly the last vinyl Junk had pressed but that was in the Dog Toffee days of course) there is now a split lined up on Texas label Dead City Records so we're all buzzing about that. More news when it comes in.

October 02- 05 - The band are looking to be playing at SxSW in Austin Texas next year, surely this will be 4th lucky! Either way look out for them as they now have so many friends in Austin they'll be playing the fringe if they're not accepted for a showcase.

August 26 - 05 - The new single 'NME Darlin' will be released through State of Decay in January 06. The band will be touring the UK in November this year.

July- 16- 05 - Manchester show with Michael Graves at Satan's Hollow on August 9th.

June - 15- 05 - There's a new site at myspcae.com where we'll be putting a few hard to find songs.

June - 13- 05 - Get your ''One more Sinner' album on July 4, a very apt day for an independent rock 'n' roll release.

What do they want for a budget of £30.Check them here if you never saw them Dog Toffee Videos This one is a multi pound affair, it's costing £100's so they shouldn't be able to resist this one.

March - 02- 05 - The Manchester album launch show is definitely confirmed for Friday March 18, at Satan's Hollow in Manchester, this is a free entry show & doors are at 7pm & the band will be playing at 8pm. There is no support & there will of course be an album playback.There will also be free Jagermeister goodies whilst stock lasts.

March - 01- 05 - We should've called the new album 'Chinese Democracy' at the rate it keeps getting postponed. New date for 'One More Sinner' March 14 05.

20.02.05 - The Manchester show will be on a different date than previosuly advertised, more news on that shortly. Dwarves in town on the same date & it's rare to get decent rock 'n' roll in manchester so no point diluting the scene.

24.01.05 - Rock 'n' Fuckin' Roll 2005 - Well here we are, yet another delay for the album, this time it's down to a change of distributor for the label. The record will now be distributed by the very fine Shellshock company & be in store for the end of Feb.

24.01.05 - Changes to the tour dates - Glasgow & Pontipidd are off, both cancellations due to the promoters not the band.
